Roslyn grew up in a steep valley at the head of Hempstead Harbor, and that terrain still decides where rain goes. Many houses sit on hillsides above Main Street and East Broadway, so runoff from one property can end up against the next foundation downhill. The village has one of the richest collections of early homes on Long Island, from early 19th-century houses on Main Street to late Victorian homes built after the Civil War, and these older structures often have wood trim and fascia that rot once gutters fail. Mature trees shed heavily into gutters every fall. Keeping water moving off the roof and away from stone foundations protects both the house and its historic character.
Main Street and East Broadway fall within the Roslyn Village Historic District, a 65-acre district added to the National Register in 1987. At the center of the village, the Ellen E. Ward Memorial Clock Tower has stood since 1895, and Gerry Park serves as the village green. Down along the harbor, the Roslyn Grist Mill, a Dutch-framed mill built between 1715 and 1741, is being restored as a museum. Northern Boulevard runs through Roslyn, and the Bryant Library there dates to 1921. From the early houses on Main Street to the homes on the hillsides above East Broadway, we install and service gutters that keep water off Roslyn's old wood and stone.
Copper half-round gutters suit Roslyn's historic homes, and we recommend 6" half-round for most houses to handle runoff on steep roofs. Rotted wood fascia is common on older homes, so we replace fascia board and can cap trim with aluminum coil. Alcoa Leaf Relief keeps leaves from the village's mature trees out of the system. On hillside lots, our hand-dug drainage moves leader water away from foundations without heavy equipment disturbing old stone walls, plantings or walkways.

Roslyn is an incorporated village with a designated historic district, so exterior work on some homes may need village review. Check with the Village of Roslyn before starting, particularly if you plan to change the gutter style or material. We can fabricate copper or aluminum half-round gutters that fit the look of an older home.
On Roslyn's hillside lots, controlling your own roof water is the first step. We tie leaders into underground drainage with leach basins or extension tails, all dug by hand so lawns, stone walls and plantings are not torn up. During a free estimate, we look at the grade and where water collects before recommending a layout.
Both work well. Half-round often suits older and historic homes, and we recommend 6-inch half-round for most houses because it carries more water than the 5-inch size. K-style comes in 5-inch for typical homes and 6-inch for higher capacity. We fabricate either one seamless on site in aluminum, Galvalume or copper.
Yes. Overflowing or leaking gutters often rot the fascia on older homes. We replace damaged fascia board, can cap it with aluminum trim coil to reduce future upkeep, and install vented vinyl soffit where needed. Then the new seamless gutters go up on sound wood, which helps them stay secure for years.
