Huntington's hamlet climbs steep hills around its harbor and the busy blocks of Huntington Village, and many of its houses are old. Victorian and early twentieth-century homes line the streets near the village center, with Colonials, Capes and later houses farther out. Older roofs often have complex rooflines, built-in or wood gutters and fascia that has been painted over for decades. On the hills, water from roofs and driveways moves fast and can wash out plantings, undermine walks or flow into lower neighbors' yards. Mature street trees drop plenty of leaves, and exposure near the harbor brings wind-driven rain. Careful gutter work here is as much about preserving an older house as keeping it dry.
Most people picture Huntington Village first: a walkable downtown of shops and restaurants around the crossing of Route 25A and Route 110, and the seat of the Town of Huntington. North of the village, Halesite and Huntington Harbor sit along the water, and directly south lies Huntington Station with its LIRR stop. Heckscher Park is a local favorite, home to the Heckscher Museum of Art, founded after Anna and August Heckscher donated works in 1920. Between the village blocks, the harbor and the station, the hamlet takes in a lot of different streets and homes. From the neighborhoods around Heckscher Park up to Halesite and the harbor, we install and service seamless gutters throughout Huntington.
Older homes around Huntington Village are well suited to copper or aluminum half-round gutters, and Island Gutters recommends 6-inch half-round for most houses. Fascia replacement and aluminum trim-coil capping protect aging wood trim. On hillside lots, hand-dug underground drainage and leach basins control runoff without machines tearing up terraced gardens or walkways. Commercial storefronts downtown can use 6-inch K-style, and copper chimney caps suit the many masonry chimneys on historic houses.

Yes. Many older homes have deteriorating wood or built-in gutters. Island Gutters can replace damaged fascia, cap trim with aluminum coil, and install seamless half-round or K-style gutters fabricated on site. Half-round, particularly in copper, suits Victorian and early twentieth-century houses. If your home is in a designated historic district, check with the Town of Huntington about any review requirements.
The first step is controlling what comes off the roof. Leader water can be piped underground to a leach basin or directed with extension tails so it does not add to surface runoff. Island Gutters digs drainage by hand, protecting terraces, pavers, irrigation and plantings on sloped lots. The company has installed more than 1,000 systems on Long Island.
Yes. Island Gutters serves commercial properties and offers 6-inch K-style gutters for higher-capacity needs. Seamless gutters are fabricated on site, and a drop-off service is available for contractors and architects working on renovations. Galvanized, Galvalume and copper are available alongside Alcoa aluminum.
For many owners of older Huntington homes it is. Copper is very long lasting, does not rust, and weathers to a natural patina that complements period architecture. Island Gutters offers copper half-round and matching copper chimney caps. Every gutter installation is covered by a 25-year warranty on materials and labor, and estimates are free.
